Advantages of R.C.C.

The main advantages of R.C.C. are as under :

1. The combination of steel and concrete is economical because compressive forces are borne by concrete and tensile forces by steel.
2. The combination of steel and concrete provides a monolithic character and provides much rigidity to the structure. R.C.C. structures resist earthquakes effec­tively.
3. C.C. structures require less cost of maintenance be­cause these are not attacked by termites.
4. C.C. structures are durable and fire resisting.
5. C.C. structures are almost impermeable to moisture.
6. Ingredients of R.C.C. are easily available.
7. Due to plastic properties of R.C.C., the R.C.C. struc­tures can be constructed of any desired shape.
8. The freshly mixed concrete can be pumped to lay in difficult portions of the structure.
9. The weight of an R.C.C. section is much less than that of plain cement concrete of same cross section.
10. The life of R.C.C. structure increases with introduction of moisture.
